Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, February 25, 2013—Highland Global Business Valuations and the Executive Committee of the Robert M. Clinger III Invitational Golf Tournament released the results of the 7th annual tournament held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Fifty-two invitees from throughout the United States and Canada braved the cold for the event. The participants followed a modified captain’s choice format designed specifically for the tournament.
The winning team consisted of Chris Johnson, Chris King, and Homer & Ruby Hodges. The winners posted a score of 68, four under par, which was one stroke ahead of their nearest competitor, enabling the teams to avoid a three-hole sudden death playoff in a rapidly dropping temperature. The 2013 champions were given the nickname “The Team That Broke the Streak” by other participants and guests as they successfully unseated the defending champions, which consisted of the Invitational’s founder, Robert M. Clinger III, Steve Vogel, Larry Yarnell, and Isla Carter, who had held the championship for an unprecedented three years in a row.
The second place team consisted of Danny MacDonald, Jonathon Smith, Will Roche and Brad Davis, and posted a three under par, 69. The third place team consisted of Tommy Brittain, Preston Brittain, Jerry Baird and Jerry Owen and posted two under par, 70.
It is expected that the 2014 field will be larger and will involve a more intense rivalry for the tournament victory. The 8th Annual Robert M. Clinger III Invitational will be held on February 17, 2014 at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
